Congratulatory Message: 40th Anniversary of Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Society of Australia
November 9, 2016
On the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of the Thalassaemia & Sickle Cell Society of Australia (formerly Thalassaemia Australia Inc.), I am very pleased to offer you my warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations on this significant milestone.
Since its inception, through strong advocacy, ongoing care and treatment, education, community consultation and indeed much needed research, the Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Society of Australia has worked tirelessly to improve the health and wellbeing of those living with genetic blood disorders in our community.
You have provided a much needed, unified voice for the adults and children alike, affected by thalassaemia, sickle cell anaemia and other related conditions, which render them dependent on regular blood transfusions, therapy and medications during their life-time. For this, and for your considered representation of those affected indirectly, I express my sincere praise and gratitude – we all know that the impact of any medical condition, reverberates far beyond the patient or carrier whom it affects directly. We see the burden it can place on family, friends and colleagues and the strain on our medical professionals, not least as they grapple for greater understanding and answers.
I commend the staff and volunteers of the Thalassaemia & Sickle Cell Society of Australia, and its committee, both past and present, on nurturing and developing your organisation since its humble beginnings, together with all those Australians whose support towards the Society, has ensured the successful expansion of its original vision. Collectively, you have shaped the chapters that comprise your success story to date and together, a vibrant and dynamic future is ensured. I wish you continued success, and a wonderful evening of much deserved celebration and proud reflection, at tonight’s anniversary charity gala. Happy 40th Anniversary!
